Mrs. Omotayo Omotosho, MFR – popularly known as Madam Tourism, calls on Nigerian State Governors to work together with the private sector to develop attractions for Nigeria Tourism post Covid-19 Lock down.
In spite of the colossal loss & impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on all aspects of our Economy, there is still some light at d end of the tunnel. Taking a closer look at the Travels & Tourism sector, it is not exempted from the negative pinch! In fact, no Sector is spared. The lock-down of several weeks brought the global economy to its knees! A lot of commentary about what this could mean for Nigeria Tourism post Covid-19.
However, there is light at the end of this ‘Pandemic tunnel‘. There would be less emphasis on over-seas travel & Outbound Tourism. The Emphasis would be more on developing our Domestic Tourism. Very long overdue!
We are looking forward to our Colourful Carnivals in Calabar, Lagos & Abuja! Our regal Celebration of the Durbar festivals in katsina, Bauchi, Kano, kaduna, Borno & Sokoto states. The Obudu tourist ranch with its absolute Splendour awaits us. Lovers of Eco-tourism will enjoy the Natural reserves of Ghasaka Gumti in Taraba State & Yankari National park in Bauchi State.
A lot of tourist attractions abound in the South-western parts of Nigeria too….the Eleko beach, Whispering palms of Badagry axis, La Campagne Tropicana, Eyo Masquerade festival, Runway Jazz, Lagos Dance festival & Destination Tourism Night… all in Lagos state.
While the Olumo Rock in Abeokuta, Osun Osogbo festival, Erin – Ijesha waterfalls, Idanre hills & Ikogosi warm Springs, acknowledged as Therapeutic await Nigerians to explore!! The Colourful boat regattas of the South-south, New Yam festivals of South-east, Oguta lake in Imo & Arochukwu long juju are beckoning us all.
How can we forget d refreshing Agbokum waterfalls? Gurara & farinruwa, these are yearning for more development! All the States Government of Nigeria, post COVID-19 lock down, should tighten their seat belts & be ready to work closely with Tourism practitioners in the Private sector to develop & promote the various Tourist Attractions in their States….if Nigeria wants to start generating huge REVENUE from this very vital sector of our economy.
It shuld be noted that the Travel & Tourism industry represents the highest employer of labour globally. And in turn, it’s one of the highest revenue earning sectors – hence it is high time we developed our DOMESTIC TOURISM. Enough of travelling abroad for summer holidays & leisure. Nigeria Tourist Attractions beckon you!!!!
